The City of Olivia reduced public safety programs, street maintenance, and charitable giving to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. As a result of the cuts, the city had budgeted to lose a police officer, but was one of 12 Minnesota cities to receive a COPS grant for replacing this officer. The city also implemented a wage freeze for non-union employees. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will increase by 2.5% for 2010 and water and wastewater rates were increased. The city has also reduced its reserve fund.
