The City of North Mankato reduced expenditures by 4.24% to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. Reductions included areas such as public safety, street maintenance, civic engagement, and chartiable giving. As a result of budget cuts, the city has left 2 vacant positions unfilled. Capital equipment replacement and capital improvement projects have been delayed, included an infrastructure rehabilitation project and a storm sewer improvement project. The city has implement a wage freeze for non-union employees and has attempted to negotiate wage freezes with its unions. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will increase 3% for 2010, and fees for licenses and room rentals will increase. The city has also reduced its reserve fund.
