The City of New Ulm increased its expenditure by 6.8%, but 6% of this increase is due to an airport project. Expenditure reductions have included street maintenance, snow removal, and charitable giving. As a result of the cuts, the city is down 2 employee positions, including one police officer out of a force of 23. The city has delayed capital improvement projects such as street reconstruction and ADA compliance projects in parks. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will increase .76% in 2010, and fees will increase for adult recreation and ordinance, such as snow removal and grass/weed cutting. The city has also reduced its fund balance.
