The City of Hoyt Lakes reduced its expenditures by 9% to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. Reductions came in areas such as street maintenance, library services, park and recreation programs, lifeguard services at beaches, civic engagement programs, and charitable giving among other areas. As a result of the aid cuts, the city has lost 1 full-time position plus 20 part-time/seasonal positions. The city has delayed capital improvement projects such as street rehabilitation and building repairs. Wages have been frozen for the city’s non-union employees, while the city will soon be entering into negotiations with unions. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will increase 6% in 2010 and various fees have been increased. The city has also reduced its reserve fund.
