The City of Granite Falls reduced expenditures such as public safety, park maintenance, and charitable giving to cope with its 2010 budget cuts. The city attempted to negotiate a wage freeze with its unions, but one union declined a wage concession and the other is still in negotiations. On the revenue side, the city’s general fund levy will increase 8.1%, but when combined with the debt service levy, the total levy for taxes payable in 2010 equals 4.65%. The city is also increased its building permit fees and is considering increasing other fees.
