The City of Grand Rapids reduced expenditures by 10% to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. Reductions came in public safety and street maintenance. As a result of service cuts, the city has lost 7 employee positions, including 3 positions in public safety out of a total force of 23. Capital equipment replacements and capital improvement projects have been delayed. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will decrease by 5.5%. The city borrowed from its reserve fund and plans to pay itself back the interest on this loan.
