The City of Glencoe reduced expenditures by 5.3% to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. Reductions came in areas such as public safety, street maintenance, snow removal, park and recreation programs, charitable giving, and civic engagement among others. As a result of the aid cuts, the city is down 2 full-time employees, including one police investigator. Capital equipment replacement and capital improvement projects, such as street overlays and seal coating, have been delayed. The city has implemented a wage freeze for non-union employees and is in negotiations with its unions for a wage freeze. On the revenue side, the city’s 2010 levy will increase 6.87 and the city has reduced its reserve fund.
