The City of Ely reduced expenditures such as public safety programs, street maintenance, charitable giving, civic engagement programs, and park and recreation programs to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. The city has delayed street reconstructions projects and street overlaying. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will increase 7% in 2010. The city has also drained its reserve fund and has had to short-term borrow in order to meet cash flow for 2009 and 2010.
