The City of Bemidji reduced street maintenance and civic engagement programs to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. The city also delayed approximately $100,000 in capital equipment purchases and instituted a wage freeze for non-union employees. Three of five bargaining units have also accepted one-year extensions in their contract with no increase in wages or benefits. The city also cut overtime in half. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will increase 19.9% in 2010, and the city instituted new administrative fees and rental license fees.
