The City of Alexandria reduced its expenditures .7% to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. Reductions came in areas such as street maintenance and civil engineering. The city will not hire 2 police officers that were budgeted for in 2009. Capital equipment replacement and capital improvement projects have been delayed. The city has instituted a wage freeze for non-union employees, and union contracts are frozen until opened for negotiation in 2011. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will increase by 8.05% in 2010 and various fees will increase. The city has also reduced its reserve fund.
