The City of Albert Lea reduced expenditures by 8% to cope with its 2010 aid cuts. Reductions came in areas such as public safety, snow removal, library hours, park and recreation services, city office hours, and charitable giving among others. As a result of these cuts, the city will be down 13 full-time employees, including one in the fire department and one in the police department. On the revenue side, the city’s levy will increase 4.3% to cover its debt service, and all fees were reviewed and increased as necessary. The city has also reduced its reserve fund.
